Columbia National Title Policy
Purpose of Notice
A new Federal Law* generally forbids an insurance company from
sharing personal information about you with other parties. To
comply with the new law we give you this notice.
Privacy Policy and Practice
Our company, its affiliates, employees and issuing agents do
not disclose any nonpublic personal information about our customers,
except as permitted by law.
Personal Information
We collect and keep the following data:
- Information we receive from you.
- Information about your transactions.
- Information we receive from others Involved in your transaction,
such as the real estate agent or lender.
Protection of Nonpublic Personal Information
The information is used to process to administer
or to enforce a title transaction or an escrow closing order you
have requested or authorized The information is shared by cu affiliates
our employees and our issuing agents on an as needed basis. We
may give the information about you to others as permitted by law.
We maintain physical electronic and procedural safeguards to protect
your nonpublic personal information.
Privacy List
Some of the exceptions permitted under the law are:
A. When processing a title order or escrow closing at the consumer's request you may disclose Nonpublic Personal Information ("NPI") as reasonably necessary:
- To effect administer or complete a transaction that a consumer requests or authorizes in connection with servicing or processing an insurance product or service
- To service claims relating to the insurance product or service and provide information to your underwriter
- To process premium payments account administration and reports to your underwriter.
- To bill and collect charges due, to transfer accounts or interest to audit payment information
- To persons acting in a fiduciary or representative capacity on behalf of the consumer or your underwriter
B. In your daily business:
- To provide information to insurance rate advisory organizations persons that are auditing your compliance with industry standards, and our attorneys, accountants and auditors.
- To comply with federal state or local laws, rules and other legal requirements.
- To comply with subpoena, summons by federal state or local authorities.
- To respond to judicial process or government regulatory authorities having jurisdiction over you.
Examples of NPI:
- Information the customer provides to you to obtain the insurance product and which is not of public record.
- The fact that an individual is or has been one of your customers or has obtained an Insurance product or service from you.
- Any information about the consumer if it is disclosed in a manner that indicates that the individual is or has been your customer.
Examples of information that is not NPI:
- Any information of public record in the county where the deed or mortgage is to be recorded
- Information that does not identify a customer, such as aggregate information or blind data that toes not contain personal identifiers such as account numbers, names or addresses
- A telephone number that is available to the general public listed in a telephone book, and not an unlisted number
